Introduction to Baccarat

Everybody who has ever played at an online casino will be well aware of such classic casino card games as poker and blackjack, however, there is one card skill game that even seasoned casino visitors may not have been introduced to: baccarat.

This is a shame, as baccarat is a beautifully simple game which can be both incredibly enjoyable and immensely lucrative. Many people are campaigning to get this casino classic back to its former levels of popularity at online casinos around the world.

The main objective behind baccarat is simple: the player must bet on whether the player’s hand will win, whether the banker’s hand will win or whether the the hands will tie. The winning hand is the one who gets the closest to nine (all ten-value cards count as zero and Aces count as one). The hand that achieves this and the highest point value wins.

The highest hand that a person can achieve in baccarat is nine; when a player is dealt a two-card total of nine, this is referred to as a ‘natural’, which is a hand that cannot lose (similar to being dealt an Ace and an ten/picture-card in Blackjack). Although it is the second-best hand available, an eight is also referred to as a ‘natural’. If both player and banker are dealt identical hands, this is referred to as a ‘tie’ or ‘standoff’ where neither the player or the banker wins. The player and banker will both be dealt two cards initially; following standard baccarat rules, they can then be dealt a card.

The simplicity of the game stems from the fact that players are not actually receiving a hand themselves, they are betting on whether the banker or player will win, lose or tie.
